How can I stay compliant with workplace pensions?

You’re required to set up a qualifying workplace pension scheme, enrol any staff that are eligible, and enable both employer and employee contributions into it.

How much do employers have to pay into workplace pensions?

What is the Employment Allowance and how can it benefit my workplace pension contributions?

The Employment Allowance is a financial benefit that can help small business owners reduce their National Insurance liability. It is designed to support smaller employers with their employment costs.

Employers can claim the Employment Allowance if they meet the following criteria:

They are a UK business
They pay National Insurance on their employees' earnings
Their total National Insurance bill for the tax year is less than £5,000

By reducing your National Insurance liability, the Employment Allowance can free up more funds that can be allocated towards your workplace pension contributions. This can potentially lead to a higher pension pot in the long run.

From April 2025, the government is to increase the employment allowance from £5,000 to £10,500 and remove the £100,000 eligibility threshold . The eligibility threshold was previously based on the Employer NI bill from the previous tax year.
