An FSB member from Edinburgh has more than recouped the cost of his membership after taking advantage of the Legal Protection scheme.

Ken Naismith, Chief Executive of software development firm CAS, claimed under the policy to cover the costs of several staff being called up for jury service in quick succession. “We have 20 employees, and four or five people were called for service,” he said.

“One of the benefits of membership is that we can claim an allowance for loss of productive staff. The equivalent of two years’ [FSB] fees have been claimed.”

CAS is based at Heriot-Watt University’s research park, and participates in a programme aimed at encouraging women into STEM jobs. It has also committed to paying the Scottish Living Wage.
