How long does it take to come up with a great business idea? A creative agency kept hitting the same problem: it’s hard to hear everyone’s opinion in a group setting. In groups of people, one voice tends to dominate the conversation, ruining the process.
Samuel Goudie, Steve Dimmick and Marc Thomas set about finding the solution. “We started thinking about it on Monday morning,” says Samuel. “By the end of the week we were presenting a working prototype to a group of potential customers.”
Their creation was Doopoll, an online polling tool. Users load the poll in a browser using an easy link – there are no apps to download, so the poll’s creator gets a higher response than that with other platforms, the founders claim. The tool is useful for firms to gather feedback from clients, or to find out what staff think about their employer.
Answers are anonymised, so users can give their honest opinions. “We’ve kept it simple,” says Samuel. “With live updating, as soon as someone answers a question you see the results immediately, which makes it great for events, too.”
The client list of the company, which is based in Wales, is booming – the National Museum of Wales, where it’s used for visitor feedback, the Welsh Government, Visit Wales and the Intellectual Property Office, plus a long list of private sector businesses.
A year-and-a-half after its formation, Doopoll is growing an international team, serving thousands of users in more than 500 cities worldwide, and has funding from angel investor Konrad Litwin and Finance Wales. “It took us a year of bootstrapping,” says Samuel. “When we closed investment, we went full-time.” It’s a cracking example of entrepreneurial spirit in action.
This gives you access to a range of services to help you find new customers, build profile and deliver high quality integrated marketing campaigns.
