FSB Wales responds to resignation of First Minister

FSB Wales say small businesses want stability and certainty

Responding to the resignation of Vaughan Gething as First Minister and his clarification that he intends to stay in post until a new Welsh Labour leader is elected, Ben Francis, Policy Chair of the Federation of Small Businesses in Wales (FSB), said:

“Following the resignation of Vaughn Gething MS, FSB Wales are calling for a swift and clear process to be outlined for the election of the new First Minister.

“An environment of uncertainty makes it difficult for small businesses to plan for the future, to make decision about funding, and to invest in growth.

“This comes at a time when businesses are still navigating an extended period of difficult economic headwinds following the twin-challenges of the pandemic and cost-of-doing-business crisis.

“The new First Minister will need to show they can provide stability and certainty in order to drive forward the change needed to build a thriving and diverse Welsh economy.

“FSB have worked constructively with Vaughan Gething during his time as First Minister, Minister for Economy and as Minister for Health and Social Services during the pandemic. We will continue to work with him on behalf of the small business community during this transition period.”

Ends.
