The HMRC app, which can be downloaded from Google Play and Apple Store, has been used by more than four million people and helps customers find out information about their tax, Nationals Insurance, tax credits and more.
To use the app in Welsh, users need to simply clock on the settings ‘gear’ icon in the top right corner and scroll down to the ‘language’ section where the Welsh option can then be toggled on. Every page that is available in Welsh will display a ‘CYM’ icon in the top right of the screen, selecting this icon will then convert words into Welsh. To revert it back to English, click on the ‘ENG’ that will then appear in the top right corner.
Lee Jones, Head of Welsh Language Services, HMRC, said: “We want as many people as possible to be able to use the HMRC app and to support the Welsh language needs of our customers.
HMRC’s Welsh Language Unit in Cardiff worked tremendously hard, together with digital colleagues across the UK to deliver this project.”
As well as the app, HMRC supports Welsh speaking customers through the Welsh Language Customer Services team in Porthmadog and the Welsh Language VAT & Excise helpline in Cardiff, delivering advice on a wide range of tax issues to customers wishing to communicate in Welsh.
