Inspiring Business Visits in Fareham and Portsmouth

Local News 26 Apr 2023

What a pleasure it’s been this week to accompany FSB’s Membership Advisor for Portsmouth and the surrounding area, Ray Fitzhenry on some business visits.

We started the day at the beautiful Florence Court Care Home for John Gower’s new Fareham Breakfast Group, where I caught up with Fareham Borough Council’s Jane Hardy and met some fantastic local business owners.  Angela from ELA Headshots kindly took ‘head shot’ photos for all guests, and Graham Bell from Fareport Training busted some of the myths around apprenticeships.  Remember that apprenticeships are for anyone between the ages of 16 and 60 and go up to Master’s Degree Level, all alongside work!

Onwards to Portsmouth and to the Limberline Industrial Estate and a visit to family business, ‘Excell Metal Spinning’ – one of very few metal spinning specialists in the UK.  Excell’s team of 38 metal specialists operates across many sectors including the Oil and Gas Industry, Defence, Aerospace and Marine sectors and right across the Engineering sector, providing both machine spinning and hand spinning expertise.  Their business is growing, and it was a delight to visit them at the former World War 2 Tank factory and see their passion for their work.

Across the road from Excell, is the home of ‘Task Welding’.  MD - James Wood was kind enough to tell us why he’s found the FSB Legal Hub helpful as a small business owner.  Task Welding operates across the Aerospace, Marine and Nuclear industries and James is a popular and respected member of the Limberline business community.

In an era when being in business is wrought with challenges, it’s uplifting to hear about success and how small businesses in the area are using their passion, tenacity and resilience to thrive.
