Why did you join FSB?
I wanted to be part of something that represented who we are and what we do as a small business, and to make our voice heard. I had looked at local groups but I didn’t think they were a good fit for me, and when I found out about FSB online it was the legal support that sold it to me. I think that’s definitely worth the cost of my membership a thousand times over, and I can’t imagine being without it.
Tell us about your experience with the legal helpline.
Even though myself and another colleague are quite clued up with employment law, it can be easy to fall foul without intricate knowledge. I’ve used the legal advice line so many times, it’s invaluable. The legal help has been wonderful, particularly during the start of the pandemic when we needed advice as government guidelines were constantly changing. To be able to sit down and discuss my questions with a lawyer was fantastic - it really gave me peace of mind.
What impact does FSB have on your business day-to-day?
I know that I can instantly pick up the phone, leave my number for a call back and a lawyer will come back to me with specialist knowledge of my problem. You can’t put a price on that. Having that level of support is so reassuring. I also read the monthly legal bulletins to stay up to date. I hope I never have to use it, but having the legal insurance cover there if I need to make a claim gives me peace of mind. Being an FSB member gives me the clarity that I’m taking the right steps, especially at this current time, and I would 100% recommend membership to other small businesses.
