Phoenix Cinema and Arts Centre first started out as a charity in 1988. Phoenix ran the much-loved venue at the heart of Leicester for 21 years producing its mixed programme of contemporary arts, live performance and film.
In November 2009, the charity moved to its current location in Phoenix Square, a purpose-built media and art centre in the city’s Cultural Quarter. The new building was created as part of an arts-led regeneration project supported by Leicester City Council and De Montfort University. Since moving, audiences for Phoenix have grown in all parts of its cultural programme to a total of 220,000 a year.
“The charity enjoys high levels of loyalty and has established independent cinema and digital art as important parts of Leicester’s cultural life. A thriving community of digital creatives has become established us. Phoenix is currently expanding Phoenix Square in a £8.7M capital project that is one of the most significant investments made in digital culture in the Midlands,” said John.
“As a small business and charity, we believed FSB could provide valuable services that we could not otherwise afford. We know that we can obtain valuable legal support and documentation to help develop the business and to respond to issues,” he added.
