Get the digital skills to take your business forward

The UK Government is currently rolling out its flagship Skills Bootcamps initiative across England, including in York and North Yorkshire.

In our area, York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (YNYLEP) is investing over £2m from its current Department of Education Skills Bootcamp grant to support individuals and businesses develop the higher level and specialised digital skills that will play a vital contribution to raising our local productivity levels.

Quality assured training providers are delivering the training on behalf of the YNYLEP. Because it is all on-line, individuals can study around existing work or personal commitments and preferences. Moreover, every course provides dedicated tutor support.

Course length varies, depending on the subject taken, but a typical average is between 120 and 150 hrs of study over a period of 10 weeks or so.

In most cases, a specialised technical background or qualification is not necessary. Applicants must be aged 19 or older and live in York or North Yorkshire or work for a business that has a substantial operating base in the area.

The cost of a complete training package for one individual ranges between £2,500 and £3,400 and the YNYLEP will fund 90% of this if an SME refers an employee and 60% for companies employing more than 250. These very modest employer contributions represent excellent value for both employees and the businesses who employ them. Self-employed business owners are fully funded by the YNYLEP.

Shaun Withers, Enterprise Partnership Officer at the YNYLEP said “This is a terrific package of support for all businesses across York & North Yorkshire and enable their staff to acquire digital skills that for some might prove invaluable to the future sustainability of their operation.”

Helen Simpson OBE, Chair of York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “This is an ambitious programme which will provide the higher-level skills needed for our region to become a greener, fairer and stronger economy. We are delighted to have secured this funding for York and North Yorkshire and to be working with excellent partners and employers to deliver these Skills Bootcamps.”
